Weaving Like the Vikings
Primary Six and Seven have been learning about the Vikings. They learned how these cultured people may not deserve the warlike reputation they have. The Vikings were skilled shipbuilders and navigators who were able to build longships and travel to many countries long before the invention of compasses or maps. We learned that they had sophisticated farming techniques which enabled them to maximise crop and meat production.
It was exciting to learn about their weapons and fighting techniques and how the berserkers struck terror into the hearts of their enemies! They were also skilled cooks who loved to flavour their food with herbs and spices. Surprisingly though, the children were more intrigued by the Viking clothes and by the weaving and sewing techniques used by the Vikings. Now every spare minute in the P6/7 room, is spent either weaving or sewing!
As a result of this new P6/7 hobby, our wool and thread supply is running very low! We would appreciate any donation of spare wool of any colour! Many thanks.
