Shared Education has started for the P1/2 children. We visited Derryhale for the first lesson. Here we were introduced to the Media Initiative puppets and we looked at the park in which they come together to play. We focused on the puppet Jim and how he felt left out at the park when no one played with him. We asked the children if they had ever felt left out and came up with ideas on what we could do if we see someone looking lonely in the park or playground. We then used this opportunity to explore some outside play with our new friends with the focus being - no one should be left out. The children played together and our new friendships began to flourish.
The next lesson saw Derryhale visit us in our school. We said hello to our new friends has passed a ‘High 5’ during Circle Time. We reintroduced our puppets and this week we focused on Kim and her story. Kim had a kite in the park so we used this as inspiration to design and create our own kites. When all kites were ready, we took them out to the playground and let the children fly their kites together.
