Memorial Mass for Mr Aitken and Deceased Friends of the School
We were delighted to welcome the family and friends of our esteemed colleague and friend, John Aitken, to a special Mass on Friday 17th May. We also welcomed family members of beloved, deceased friends of our school, Mary Digby, Jim Gallagher and Sean Og Reid. During the Mass, plaques dedicated to our deceased friends were blessed by Fr Brennan and after the Mass the plaques were placed at trees planted in their memory. A bramley apple tree was planted by Mr Aitken’s brother, Cyril, in memory of Mr Aitken, whose love of growing and nurturing plants was highlighted during the offertory.
The choir sang some of Mr Aitken’s favourite hymns and Emily Mc Quade played two beautiful, evocative pieces on her violin. The readings were read by Mr Aitken’s wife, Myra, past Principal, Jimmy Mc Kee, former colleague of Mr Aitken, Damian Byrne and past pupil, Kiera Rooney. Refreshments were served afterwards in the staff room.
Many thanks to everyone who participated and attended the Mass and helped us to remember our dear friends.
