Local Farmer Visits P6/7 🍎🍏

11th Oct 2022

As part of their WAU topic and local study, P6/7 were delighted to welcome local farmer, Pat Mc Keever from Long Meadow Farm to their classroom. We appreciate his visit very much as this is Pat’s busiest time of the year.
Pat came to school laden with delicious goodies for the children to sample. While the children munched apples and drank fresh apple juice, Pat talked about the intricate production of his wonderful juice from the growth of the Ellstar apple to its pressing in the press. Children watched a video of the machine that squeezes the juice from the apple leaving the pulp behind. Pat informed us that no part of the valuable apple is wasted as the pulp is bought by well known food producer HP, who add the pulp to their famous HP sauces.
The children tasted apple juice before and after the rest period that allows the natural apple sediment to sink to the bottom revealing the famous golden juice, ready to be bottled and shipped to places as far a field as Italy and France.

Many thanks to Pat and Long Meadow Farm for again supporting the school 🍏🍎
