Celebrating Autumn (and 🍎 apples🍏) in a Primary 1
Primary 1 have thoroughly enjoyed learning about the season of Autumn. We went on an Autumn Walk up through the tree area behind our classroom. We collected, leaves, twigs, apples and plums. Some people brought in conkers, crab apples, pine cones and berries. We used these to make faces, to sort into sets, in our tuff tray and in the mud kitchen. We also used wooden discs to help us identify numbers and our High Frequency Words.
After the fun of picking apples, we did an apple taste test using red Royal Gala apples, light green/yellow Golden Delicious apples and green Granny Smith apples. Children tasted each apple and coloured in the face to highlight if they liked, disliked or thought they were ok. After that, we traced an apple, coloured it in to correspond with our favourite apple and traced a sentence underneath. Those who didn’t like apples, designed an apple they might like to eat.
