Boys' Indoor Team Perform Heroics at County Finals

14th Mar 2025

We made the short journey over to the Jack Bratton indoor hall at Armagh Harp's GFC last week to compete in the County Armagh Indoor Boys' 5 a-side finals. Having come agonisingly close to qualifying in the last few years, we were thrilled that this group of players made it through to the County Finals, no mean feat indeed.

However, we lads didn't go to Armagh to simply make up numbers, instead they went there to compete and showcase their best and that is just what they did! We comprehensively won 2 out of 3 games in the group stage (losing to the eventual winners by a mere point) to qualify for the quarter-finals as 2nd placed team.

The boys played outstanding football in the quarter final and ran out comfortable winners, setting up a semi-final against St. Brigid's P.S., Drumilly from South Armagh. In the semi the lads got off to a great start but Drumilly slowly crawled their way back into the game and as the final whistle approached, the concession of a last gasp free gave the boys from Drumilly the chance to snatch the lead with the last kick of the game! Unfortunately for ourselves, the free was scored and with it the chance to represent the school in a first Armagh County Indoor Boys' final in countless years slipped us by!

It goes without saying however that everyone in the school is immensely proud of the lads, and their achievement in getting so close to the final, (despite playing against schools with vastly superior numbers than ourselves), is simply brilliant.

We remain hugely excited for the outdoor season that lies ahead given that we have equally talented players ready to step into to our lager outdoor panel. Keep an eye out here for future updates in what promises to be a very exciting season ahead!
